The story of this Cool Idea
For ages, I’ve been incubating this idea to make a tiny top-down “overhead projector” for cookie art. And, as ideas do, it kept simmering quietly in the back of my mind, waiting for the right combination of parts and inspiration to come together.
I knew I needed three things:
– a small bright light,
– something to hold my little transparency in place,
– and a magnifying lens to shrink the image.
So one day, while merrily procrastinating, I Googled “crocodile clamps” (you know, the kind you might want to use to hold a tiny piece of transparency.) And what did I find??
Only that someone had already built my little projector… completely by accident!
I realised, with great glee, that with a slightly different assembly, a simple Helping Hands soldering station could become my little overhead cookie projector!
And lo and behold! There was one that actually worked!
Granted, I might have designed a few things a little differently if it where up to me, but it worked! So my little helping hands cookie projector is my new cookie projector and I love it.
If you want to find one for yourself, please keep in mind that not all helping hands are equally helpful though. Many look similar, but can have the wrong lens or the wrong light, and those
simply won’t project well. The model I’m showing you here is one that I know works.
